Dr. Fauci plans to retire by the end of Biden’s term

Chief Medical Advisor to the president Dr. Anthony Fauci recently said that he plans on retiring by the end of President Joe Biden’s term.

Dr. Fauci was appointed the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in 1984 and has been a part of research in HIV/AIDS, Ebola, and Zika. He was thrust into the spotlight as Chief Medical Advisor and part of the COVID-19 task force in 2020 under President Donald Trump, and continued his role under president Joe Biden.

Dr. Fauci’s exchanges with US senator Dr. Rand Paul (R-KY) have led to controversies including Dr. Fauci’s alleged roles in gain-of-function research, the risks and benefits of the vaccines, the effectiveness of the lockdowns, whether or not children should be vaccinated, and other controversies.

Although Dr. Fauci has faced scrutiny throughout his tenure as Chief Medical Advisor, he insists that his decision to resign is not political.

“It has nothing to do with pressures, nothing to do with all of the other nonsense that you hear about, all the barbs, the slings and the arrows. That has no influence on me,” Fauci said in an interview with POLITICO, according to Modern Healthcare
